ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN – Family event support

“I just want to donate and volunteer” says a proud former RA Gateway Student as she checked in as a WSCA student volunteer for the Trunk or Treat and makes a stop by the AGC table!

Our Trunk or Treat event last Friday was a huge success, thanks to all the hard work of the Trunk or Treat committee, the families that created fun trunks and tables, the ukulele club and all the wonderful volunteers which included students from WSCA! The Annual Giving Campaign supports such events to help bring us together and build community. Thank you to all who stopped by the AGC table and donated as all this is possible because of your support. Congratulations to our two AGC raffle winners Stacey Hisey and Riquelen Ngumezi.

Help us to continue to bring events like the Trunk or Treat to our school to help build community by donating today! ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN – Art Docent Program support

“I think art is really calming and I feel like my brain is relaxing and my hand has a brain of its own.”

–Mandy (RAG Student)

The Art Docent Program brings art and art appreciation into the classrooms and supports the growth of our students as artists and art enthusiasts. In addition to being an incredibly fun activity, art docent lessons also offer students an opportunity for self-expression which leads to a sense of achievement. Monthly our students learn about different artists and their works, engage in art critiques, and create a variety of fun hands-on art projects. The art docent program is truly only possible because of all our wonderful art docent volunteers and your continued support to the Annual Giving Campaign which invests about $2,000 annually towards the program to replenish used art supplies and add different tools and medium to offer a variety of expanding experiences, including clay, screen printing, bleeding tissue art, fluorescent, metallic paints, and more!

Help us to continue to support this program, consider donating today to the Annual Giving Campaign online at  https://gatewaypsp.rallyup.com/agc2223 or drop off your donation at the front desk with this Annual Giving donation form. THANK YOU so much to all our families and your continued support to the Annual Giving Campaign, all this would not be possible without YOU!

ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN

“Creates a sense of COMMUNITY and EXCITEMENT about reading”

Says Dana Michaeloff, our Lead Hub Library volunteer, as she goes from one grade level library to the next, “We see students come out to look through the books and happily talk with each other about which books they like and what topics they enjoy, creating a beautiful community around reading, books and learning.”

Our student hub libraries have over 12,500 books thanks to our wonderful families and teachers. Our Annual Giving Campaign (AGC) has invested about $10,000 over the last 5 years to continue to grow and maintain our hub libraries, so thank you for your continued donations to the AGC! This year, we hope to add another bookcase in our 2nd Grade hub library and label/process about a thousand more non-fiction and high-priority donated chapter books to be added to our libraries. We need your HELP! Our current library needs this year will be an investment of about $4,500 thus we need you to help support the Annual Giving Campaign. The AGC helps grow and maintain our hub libraries, but wait that is not all, funds from the AGC also go towards our art/music docent programs, classroom accounts for teachers, campus enhancements (as needed) and much more. We are striving for 100% participation in our Annual Giving Campaign at any level that works for your family! So, how can you donate today and help us continue to provide traditional book libraries to INSPIRE a love of learning and reading in our students and fund many other school programs.

Welcome – ’22-’23

Welcome back, Gators! The PSP team is excited for this school year! There will be a little more normalcy this year with more events and volunteer opportunities, and as always, we will need your help to make it all run smoothly!

Make sure to check out the ‘Get Involved’ page to learn more about volunteer needs. We are encouraging families to get involved in at least one volunteer opportunity this year. Some will be able to volunteer weekly in the classroom, and others might be more interested in a one-time event. Please get involved in whatever way makes sense for your family!

While you’re here, please also head to the ‘AGC’ page to check out this year’s Annual Giving Campaign. You will see that this year’s campaign is set up a little differently, giving you more options on how to contribute. There is an option to contribute the recommended $100 per student, but you will also see options to sponsor wish list items. These are some items that we would like to fund this year. In addition to these ways of contributing, you will also see an option to ‘sign up.’ This will allow you to participate in a peer-to-peer fundraising option where you can create a page for your student/family and ask family and friends to contribute to our school’s enrichment!

Once you’ve checked out how to get involved and how to contribute, make sure to look over the ‘Events’ tab for all our planned events! Our first fundraising event will be August 11th – our first minimum day of the year – at Skipolini’s Pizza right down the street from school! You will also see that our first schoolwide event will be a Trunk or Treat on October 29th. We are still looking for committee members to help organize this event, and we will need lots of trunks on display so start thinking about fun themes for getting involved!

As always, please reach out to the Gateway PSP team with any questions. You can email us at GatewayPSP@rafos.org.

Your PSP representatives,

Kay Bass, Krystl Burleigh, and Kiran Sibia

Summer Family Music Series – Week 9

To everyone who participated with us this Summer, we hope you enjoyed this added program offered to help families bond over the summer using something as important as MUSIC!  We thank you for your participation! For our last installment, we are looking at The Rhythm and Beat Poem and We Will Rock You. The Rhythm and Beat Poem is a great song/poem that teaches the foundations of music (beat and rhythm). This teaches children about steady beats in poetry, as well as singing partner songs (a variation of singing in rounds where two DIFFERENT songs are sung at the same time, thus creating a natural harmony). Now listen to the classic We Will Rock You by Queen. Other than the last 30 seconds, which contains a guitar solo, the song is generally set in a cappella form using only stomping and clapping as a rhythmic body percussion beat. So…time to get up one last time…and get ready to become a percussion instrument yourself! Stomp, clap, and dance along! Don’t forget to smile and give your family a big hug!  For more musical fun and learning, visit our family music docent website at bigbrainjunction.org/music!

Summer Family Music Series – Week 8

Welcome to our 8th installment of our summer music fun program! Only one week left! Follow the Leader  encourages listening skills while having a blast dancing to an instructor/teacher.  Easy to follow as long as the family members are listening, watching, and following direction!  IMPORTANT SKILLS FOR NOT ONLY THE CLASSROOM, BUT FOR LIFE!  Next up is one of the most well-known songs from the 1978 film Grease, We Go Together. The songs upbeat tempo and fun dance moves help create one of the most well-known endings to a motion picture.  For more musical fun and learning, visit our family music docent website at bigbrainjunction.org/music!

Summer Family Music Series – Week 7

Happy Summer RAFOS Families!  Dance song #1 this week is CheerleaderThe song can celebrate anyone who serves as a support system for another person.  Next, is something a little different!  This video of Stomp and the Harlem Globetrotters Making Music with Basketballs is a great example of “What is Sound?” showing that you don’t necessarily need a musical instrument to make music. Even basketballs can make music!  You can use just about anything to make a rhythm.  STOMP is a percussion group, originating in Brighton, United Kingdom that uses the body and ordinary objects to create a physical theater performance using rhythms, acrobatics and pantomime. The Harlem Globetrotters are talented basketball players who entertain with their skills.  Have a blast!  For more musical fun and learning, visit our family music docent website at bigbrainjunction.org/music!
