Summer Family Music Series – Week 6

Dear Rocklin Academy Family Members!  Ready for more Summer music fun?! Well…Here we go! (Click on the song titles to enjoy the songs with your family!)

Let’s take it back to the ‘90s and hit the dance floor to dance together to Cotton Eyed Joe!  Apologies in advance that the song will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day!  Cotton Eyed Joe has inspired both a partner dance and more than one country line dances. It introduces Country Music to students, along with country instruments such as the banjo and bluegrass fiddle. And now…sit back and enjoy the ride as acapella singing group Pentatonix, takes us through the history of music starting with the 11th Century!  Music has changed so much over the decades and will continue to do the same. To match the evolution of music with the evolution of dance, you can revisit the Evolution of Dance video from week 3!  For more musical fun and learning, visit our family music docent website at bigbrainjunction.org/music!

Summer Family Music Series – Week 5

Dear RAFOS Family!  We truly hope that everyone has been enjoying this Summer Music Series as we just hit the half-way point! (Song titles are clickable links for you to enjoy!)

Just like the song says, time to take it back to the old school with Whoomp! (There It Is). Kids…grab your parents, because this song is a throwback to their generation! The song has remained a pop culture staple with multiple placements in film, television, and advertisements. The song has also endured as a mainstay at sporting and arena events. Next, let’s sing along with Elsa as she sings the iconic song Let It Go from Disney’s animated feature Frozen.  The video does display the lyrics…but after all this time, does anyone really need them???  For more musical fun and learning, visit our family music docent website at bigbrainjunction.org/music!

This weekend…get ready to Kidz Bop Shuffle with your family!!! Keep it silly and fun!  Remember…there is no wrong way to dance…movement and music appreciation is what it’s all about!!!!  “Shout” was made famous by the Isley Brothers and Rolling Stone magazine ranked it at number 119 on its list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”  This song is played at most parties with a DJ.  And best yet…this will definitely get the wiggles out using simple choreography.  For more musical fun and learning, visit our family music docent website at bigbrainjunction.org/music!

Summer Family Music Series – Week 3

Dear Rocklin Academy Gateway Parents! Welcome to our 3rd week of our Summer Family Music Program! Ready for another fun bonding experience with your kids? …here we go! Not only has music evolved over the years, but so has the way we move to music! The Evolution of Dance video is a great representation of how music, dance, and even fashion have changed through the decades. Remember…there is no wrong way to dance…movement and music appreciation is what it’s all about! “Good Feeling” is a song by American rapper Flo Rida from his 2012 EP of the same name. The song contains vocal samples from Etta James’s 1962 single “Something’s Got a Hold on Me.” It’s pretty obvious!  So…get up and dance to Good Feeling and listen to the similarities from Etta James’ classic song!  For more musical fun and learning, visit our family music docent website at bigbrainjunction.org/music!  Enjoy!

Its positive feel and upbeat disco, pop, soul and funk influences helped make it the best-selling song of 2016. Fight Song introduces students to the Core Knowledge principle of dynamics by starting off with a simple, quiet melody played by the piano followed by a crescendo to louder drums and horns. These three songs have positive messages of staying true to yourself and standing tall in the face of adversity.  Smile and enjoy!  For more musical fun and learning, visit our family music docent website at bigbrainjunction.org/music!

Join us for a Coffee Chat!

Join Principal Antoon and the Parent School Partnership representatives for a coffee chat on Tuesday, May 3rd, at 8:30am in the 6550 multipurpose room! This event will be a great time to connect with the PSP team, other parents, and Mrs. Antoon! You will get an update on school happenings, PSP events, and PSP fundraising from this year, as well as upcoming ways to get involved.

Because this is an event, not a volunteer opportunity, any parent is welcome to attend. This is an adult only event; we are not able to accommodate younger siblings. We hope to see you there!

Please note, this event will replace the May PSP General Meeting.

Sunshine for Staff

Our Gateway teachers and staff have been going ABOVE AND BEYOND this year. Every single adult on campus has been helping with teaching and filling in where needed, often with last minute changes or needs to fill multiple roles.
To help thank the amazing Gateway team for all they do, the PSP is providing 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 in the staff lounges that will have coffee, tea, and other goodies to keep the staff fueled and hopefully, bring some brightness to their days! These carts and baskets have initially been funded by your contributions to the Annual Giving Campaign, but in order to keep them stocked for the rest of the year, we need your help! 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘁, and we will include your name on a sponsor sign on the cart for the week!
If you’d like to contribute, use the link below, and reach out to the PSP team at GatewayPSPteam@gmail.com with any questions!

Contribute to show your gratitude!

2021-2022 Welcome Back Letter

Welcome back! We are so excited to get this school year started!

Building connection and community is one of the main focuses of the Parent School Partnership (PSP) this year. This school year will bring a little more normalcy, but there is a lot of flexibility built into our calendar this year to account for any necessary changes based on current regulations. It will be more important than ever to read the newsletter, follow our social media, and keep an eye on our website so you are aware of any changes that may take place.

To start off the year, we have planned meet and greet events that will allow for families to connect safely with each other. There will be a kick off event near the school and additional meet ups in communities where some of our families live. Come to these events to meet other families and find out who may live near you for future meet ups!

We are also looking forward to connecting with families at roller rink meet ups, restaurant fundraisers, family fun nights, and a potential in person auction night!

The Parent School Partnership works best with input and involvement from all our families. Please reach out if you would like to get involved by volunteering, joining a committee, or becoming a PSP representative. We would love to have you join us in building a strong community!

Sincerely, Kay Bass, Krystl Burleigh, and Le Haller, your ’21-’22 PSP Representatives
